BMW GROUP SOUTH AFRICA DRIVES EDUCATION FORWARD.

To date, 146 schools have benefitted from BMW Group South Africa’s support. This investment underlines our continued commitment to education and to the Soshanguve community, where many BMW Group Plant Rosslyn associates live. Our investment has ranged from new or improved infrastructure to teacher training with the aim of significantly improving the learning environment and educational opportunities for the learners at the respective schools.

NATIONAL CODING AND ROBOTICS HUBS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH UNICEF.

The partnership between government, UNICEF, and the private sector, including BMW Group, is crucial to ensuring equitable access to STEM education, especially for learners in disadvantaged communities. This includes innovative approaches like ‘unplugged’ coding programmes.

 

Balancing technical STEM skills with essential soft skills like critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration is key to preparing youth for the workplace of tomorrow. Continued collaboration between all stakeholders – government, international organisations, the private sector, educational institutions, and communities – is needed to successfully bridge the skills gap and empower South African youth for the digital age.

 

It is not about ‘how many projects’ we support, but about ‘how impactful’ our social commitment is.

THE TRAINING ACADEMY.

BMW Group Plant Rosslyn Training Academy.

Over the past 40 years, more than 2,000 people have transitioned from the BMW Group Plant Rosslyn Training Academy to employment at the plant, with many trainees securing roles in the wider industry. The new R73 million Training Academy is part of BMW Group South Africa’s vision to develop and uplift people. 

 

The Training Academy continues to provide skills development for existing BMW Group South Africa employees and managers, as well as several learners with learnerships. As an accredited skills development provider (SDP), a key focus is on building a talent pipeline for BMW Group Plant Rosslyn with future needs in mind. Technical learnerships currently include mechatronics and autotronics, with qualifying learners obtaining their trade as millwrights and transportation electricians respectively.
